Terms of Service

These are the rules of the road for using KeySona. We've written them in plain English so you can actually read them. By installing the extension or creating an account, you agree to what's below.

TL;DR

01The basics

KeySona is a Chrome browser extension that expands typed shortcuts into longer text, plus optional cloud sync and AI rewrite features. These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of the extension, our marketing site, and our paid services.

"We", "us", and "our" refer to the KeySona team. "You" means anyone using the extension. If you don't agree with these Terms, don't use KeySona — uninstall the extension and you're done.

You must be at least 13 years old to use KeySona. If you're using it on behalf of a company, you confirm you have the authority to bind that company to these Terms.

02Acceptable use

KeySona is a writing tool. Use it for writing. Specifically, you agree not to use it to:

You're responsible for everything you create, send, or store with Skeleton Key. We don't moderate snippet content, but we will respond to credible reports of abuse.

03Free, Pro, and Team tiers

KeySona is available in three tiers. We may change the limits or pricing for new signups at any time, but we'll honor what you signed up for during any current paid billing period.

If you exceed a usage limit on a paid plan (e.g. you burn through your 100 monthly AI rewrites on Pro), the relevant feature pauses until the next billing cycle, or until you upgrade. We won't surprise-bill you.

Free tier is free forever. No trial expiring on you, no sudden paywall. If we ever change Free tier limits, existing Free users keep their current limits for at least 90 days after we announce the change.

04Billing and renewals

Pro and Team subscriptions are billed by Stripe, our payment processor. By subscribing, you authorize Stripe to charge your payment method on a recurring basis until you cancel.

Billing cycle

Subscriptions renew automatically each month (or year, if you chose an annual plan) on the same date you signed up. Team subscriptions are billed per seat — adding or removing seats mid-cycle is prorated.

Failed payments

If a payment fails, Stripe will retry over the following few days. If it still fails, your account will downgrade to the Free tier and your cloud data will be retained read-only for 30 days. You can re-subscribe at any time to restore full access.

Price changes

If we ever change subscription prices, we'll email you at least 30 days before your next renewal. You can cancel before then if you don't want to pay the new price.

05Refunds

You can request a full refund within 7 days of any paid charge — your first subscription payment or any subsequent renewal. No questions, no forms, no "won-back" funnel. Email us at billing@keysona.app and we'll process the refund through Stripe within 5 business days.

How the 7-day window works: Your refund eligibility resets on every charge. If a renewal hits and you realize you forgot to cancel, you've got a week to ask for that month back.

Refunds after the 7-day window are at our discretion. We'll generally say yes for genuine billing mistakes (double charges, charges after a confirmed cancellation) and no for "I just don't use it anymore" — for that, just cancel and the next renewal won't happen.

Cancellations

You can cancel any time from Settings → Billing, or via your Stripe customer portal. Cancellation stops future renewals immediately. You keep paid features until the end of the current billing period — we don't yank access the moment you click cancel.

06AI rewrites are not guaranteed

The AI rewrite feature uses a third-party language model (Anthropic's Claude). It's useful, but it's also a language model. That means:

Always read AI-rewritten text before sending it. You are solely responsible for anything you send, regardless of which tool helped you write it. KeySona is not liable for the content of AI rewrites, including any harm caused by inaccurate, offensive, or otherwise problematic outputs.

AI rewrites are provided on a best-effort basis. We don't guarantee any specific quality level, response time, or availability. If the feature is down, your unused monthly quota does not carry over.

07Your account

An account is only required for Pro and Team plans. You're responsible for:

For Team accounts, the workspace owner is responsible for managing seats, permissions, and any shared snippet libraries. The owner can remove members at any time, and removed members lose access to shared content immediately (their personal snippets are unaffected).

08Termination

By you

You can stop using KeySona at any time by uninstalling the extension. If you have a paid account, cancel your subscription in Settings → Billing and (optionally) delete your account in Settings → Account → Delete.

By us

We may suspend or terminate your account, with or without notice, if you:

Where possible, we'll give you notice and a chance to fix the issue before terminating. For serious violations (fraud, illegal content, abuse), we may terminate immediately and report to authorities as required by law.

What happens to your data

On account deletion, we remove your synced snippets, account email, and subscription record within 7 days. Locally stored snippets in your browser are unaffected by account deletion — uninstall the extension to wipe those. You can export everything as JSON at any time before deletion.

09Service availability

We aim for high uptime on cloud sync and AI rewrites, but we don't promise a specific service-level agreement on the Pro plan. Team plans include a 99.5% monthly uptime target — if we miss it, contact billing for a prorated credit.

The local-only features of KeySona (snippet expansion, profiles, variables) work entirely in your browser and don't depend on our servers. If our cloud services are down, your snippets still expand.

We may take features down for maintenance occasionally. We'll announce planned maintenance in advance when we can.

10Intellectual property

Your stuff is yours. Snippets you create, content you rewrite with AI, and any data you store in KeySona remains your property. We don't claim any ownership over it.

Our stuff is ours. The KeySona extension, our website, our brand, and our documentation are protected by copyright and trademark. You can use the extension as it's designed to be used; you can't copy our code or rebrand the product.

11No warranties

This doesn't override consumer protection rights you may have under the law of your country — if you're entitled to a statutory warranty, you still have it.

12Limitation of liability

In plainer terms: if KeySona fails you in some way, the most we'll be on the hook for is whatever you paid us recently (or a small fixed cap if you're a Free user). We make a useful tool, not a critical-infrastructure product.

13Indemnification

You agree to defend and indemnify us against any third-party claim arising from (a) your misuse of KeySona, (b) your violation of these Terms, or (c) content you create, send, or store with the extension. We'll promptly notify you of any such claim and let you control its defense.

14Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms occasionally — adding new features, clarifying ambiguous language, or responding to legal developments. When we do, we'll update the "Last updated" date at the top.

For meaningful changes (anything that affects your rights or our obligations), we'll notify paid users by email at least 30 days before the new Terms take effect. If you don't agree with the changes, cancel before then and you won't be bound by them.

Continued use of KeySona after a change takes effect means you accept the updated Terms.

15Governing law and disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of the jurisdiction where the KeySona team is established, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. Any dispute that we can't resolve over email will be heard in the courts of that jurisdiction.

Before filing anything formal, please email us at legal@keysona.app. We'd much rather sort it out directly than involve lawyers — and in our experience, almost everything is resolvable that way.

If any part of these Terms is found unenforceable, the rest stays in effect. Our failure to enforce a provision isn't a waiver of our right to enforce it later.
